Just “pushing through” isn’t working the way it used to.

Perhaps the wrestling and struggling inside don’t match the picture of success on the outside. You may be doing what needs to be done (because that’s life)—at work, at home, for others—while feeling depleted, on edge, or disconnected from what really matters to you.

For some, these feelings stem from navigating parenthood or leadership roles amid the constant pressure to perform. For others, it means carrying cultural, familial, or intergenerational expectations that leave little room to slow down or ask for help. You might feel stuck in cycles of overdoing, guilt, or self-criticism, or like you’re always just at the edge—functioning, yes, but never really at ease.

Maybe you’re here because you…

  • Have been walking a tightrope for so long it’s become your “normal”—holding it all together, but with almost no room for error and no idea how to step down.

  • Feel pulled in different directions—between family expectations, cultural values, and your own inner voice.

  • Don't necessarily think of yourself as someone with trauma, but know that some of what you're carrying goes deeper than stress.

  • Find yourself snapping, shutting down, or reacting in ways that you don’t like…and then spending the rest of the day (or week) feeling guilty about it.

What you’re experiencing didn’t come out of nowhere.

Who I am

01

Hi, I’m Dr. Shaayestah Merchant.

I approach what I do with care, curiosity, and deep respect for the complexity of each person’s story.

As someone shaped by layered cultural and intergenerational histories myself, I’m attentive to the ways early relationships, family expectations, systems, and survival strategies continue to live in the body long after they were formed.

In therapy, we work toward change, while also focusing on strengthening your capacity to engage with your life as it is—making conscious, self-directed choices in the present.

Over time, the work expands. While honoring what happened (and what’s happening), we begin creating space for how you want to live moving forward.

AREAS OF EXPERTISE

I support those who are carrying complex personal, cultural, and systemic histories. Whether you are navigating trauma, immigration-related stress, or the lived experience of being a person of color in systems not built for you, therapy here is thoughtful, grounded, and deeply attuned to your unique context and challenges.

Therapy is meant to create movement.

Even when older themes show up in new ways, the goal is always a meaningful shift in how you experience and respond to them.
